In the HVAC industry, effective training creates more knowledgeable technicians who are able to offer more efficient, thorough, and higher quality HVAC maintenance, repairs, and replacements.
Most HVAC technicians go through new training every time they are hired. This training can be through the product manufacturers (where the technician receives a detailed education on the specific components and service techniques for each brand that their HVAC company offers) and/or training unique to the company they work for (usually covering company policies, company culture, customer service, problem solving, etc.). Some HVAC companies do their company-specific training through 3rd party training companies like the Nexstar Network or Success Academy, that provide sales, business, and management training as well as leadership events for HVAC technicians.
While there is no universal HVAC training period, the industry average is about 100 hours of training for entry-level technicians and somewhere around 50 hours for more experienced technicians. In the digital age, the need for HVAC technician training has never been more pressing/mandatory. Customers are more educated, ask more detailed questions, and have higher service standards, while the products are only getting more advanced and complex. Many contractors now require all technicians to attend ongoing training to stay on top of the new products and techniques in the HVAC industry.
